This rather anonymous looking album is the digital version of the excellent Canaro album in ASV’s series ‘Living Era’, La Cumparsita: Tango Argentino 1935-1940. The bulk of the tracks were recorded in 1935-38 with Roberto Maida on vocals.
The first printing of the first edition has an error in the list of the phases of Canaro’s career. It should read:
1. 1915-1926: the acoustic era
2a. 1926-1931: the early electrical era: mostly soft. Charlo.
2b. 1932-1934: the early electrical era: mostly hard. Famá.
3. 1934-1938: the Maida era (soft)
4. 1939 onwards: the populist era: Famá, Amor, Adrián etc.
