Tango Masters: Aníbal Troilo

Tango Masters - Aníbal Troilo 337x521
I am delighted to announce a new book about Aníbal Troilo, the first in the English language. The book will be launched on the Centenary of his birth on 11.07.2014.

The book follows in the vein of “Tango Stories, Musical Secrets”. It is not a biography, but a guide to the music of this most sophisticated of dance orchestras.

Further details, including arrangements for re-sellers and pre-ordering will be announced shortly.

Review of “Tango-Geschichten” in Tangodanza

Tangodanza 2014 issue 1Tangodanza magazine published this review of TangoGeschichten (1st edition) in the first issue of 2014.

Michael Lavocah has invented a new genre of tango literature. The book is not a catechism, as is sometimes murmured mysteriously, but an excellent guide for those interested in tango which can engage your attention for a long time.

German edition now listed on the VLB

The German edition of the book is now listed on the Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher (VLB), which is the German register of books in print. This means it can be ordered from any bookshop in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The retail price is € 25 / CHF 30.80.
You can see the listing by going to www.buchhandel.de and searching for it. Buchhandel is the retail arm of MBV, the organisation which administers the VLB – there’s no equivalent in England, where the company that administers the Book database (Neilsen) is wholly separate.
Unfortunately, Buchhandel does not let me link directly to the listing, but here is the correct search phrase. Buchhandel can direct you to your nearest local bookshop from your post code (Postleitzahl).

German launch party

The launch party is confirmed for Saturday 5th October in Berlin. This is taking place within Berlin’s first ever Musical Secrets festival, organised by Ines Moussavi at La Berlinesa. Ines has invited a group of teachers with expertise in teaching musicality: Ruth Zimmermann, Raimund Schlie of Mala Junta, Steve Morrall of Tango UK, and myself. On each day a famous tango orchestra will be presented. A special feature will be the daily pre-milonga where we will DJ for 90 minutes just with one orchestra, showcasing its different periods and styles.

I am pleased just to be part of this event, and it’s the perfect event for the launch the book. I hope to see many of you there!

Tango-Geschichten: Was die Musik erzählt

Here is the German cover:
Tango-Geschichten: Was die Musik Erzählt
As you can see we are colour coding the language versions. English is teal, German is green, and we have more planned. I think my designer has done a really good job adapting the German title to the label. Huge thanks as well to Daniela Feilcke-Wolff of Mala Junta who came up with the winning title!
The ISBN number of the German edition is: 978-0-9573276-2-7. The book is being published in England, but will also be registered in Germany so that it appears on the Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher (VLB) database and can be ordered from German bookshops. You will of course be able to buy the book online as well. The retail price will be € 25 / CHF 30.

Tango Stories launching in German in October!

I’m excited to announce that “Tango Stories” will be launching in German in October! There has been a lot of interest in the book in Germany, which is a nation with a strong book culture. German was thus the clear choice for the first language into which to translate the book. We started work on a translation in the spring and I have a team working hard to bring everything together.

The launch party is planned for Berlin on Saturday 5th October.

We still haven’t settled on a title. The English title is not perfect in that it doesn’t really tell you what the book is about. We have come up with a number of possibilities, but they are all longer. The title has to fit nicely into the record label and be legible. Feel free to make any suggestions below!

I will be making more announcements in the next days, including about distribution – watch this space!
